LAINE STULTZ

STEALTH
This collection is focused on the experiences that trans- masc individuals have when dealing with assimilating into the culture around masculinity. It is broken down into layers, with the outer layer being the strong, tough persona or shield, and the inner layer being the softer, more sensitive inner feelings.

INNERMOST LAYER
The internal repressed emotions. Soft and thick, comforting yet suffocating, organic and cellular.

OUTERMOST LAYER
Traditional camouflage print associated with defense and battle over thick cotton blue jeans made to last through years of wear. Knit wire covers the knees and hips, limiting the wearer’s range of motion and making it impossible to kneel comfortably. The soft, tightly knit wool reveals a small amount of skin but is covered by the shape of an “x” forbidding entry.

OUT OF BODY
Classic blue denim made into armor that sheds with wear and tear, revealing yet another layer of denim armor underneath. Stiff and baggy around the body’s natural curves, boxing out the figure underneath.

INSIDE OUT
Emulating soft muscle tissue through a mix of texture, hues, and organic shapes. Wires protect the torn muscle fibers and hide the chest from view. The silhouette is feminine and tight against the body and seemingly torn at the sleeves and ribcage

DELICATE
This weaving was created with the intention of it being used in the backdrop for my collection’s photoshoot. I wanted to create a textural woven piece that echoed the textures in my pieces while keeping the clean white of the traditional backdrop.
